Anima d’Or

Anima d’Or is a full-scale project conceived and carried out exclusively for Marina d’Or Ciudad de Vacaciones. Developed in 2005.

Anima d’Or was a proposal for street animation conceived to complement, enrich and boost the leisure offering provided by the “Marina d’Or” Vacation City by thematizing its parks and roadways and making them much more surprising and participative.

The idea consisted of creating a convivial, festive climate in the streets and nerve centers of the tourism complex, based on a series of characters and animation activities that would leave brushstrokes of color in their wake and fill the various corners of Marina d’Or with music, humor and surprises.

For this purpose, we started from an animation concept based on a long coat stand full of disguises linked with nature in the area.

These costumes were designed so that they would permit the adaptation of appliqués and complements designed to transform them into different characters related with the activities of the vacation city.

Thus, for example, a Norway lobster disguise could be a maintenance technician, with the claws included, or a flamenco dancer, with a peineta (hair comb) and castanets, enriching and lending variety to the sketches that would emerge in the animation.

This novel design made it possible, with a small number of actors and some well planned daily and weekly rotations of the coat stand, to present the continuously renewed costumes, maintaining the ability to surprise and responding to the needs of the entire season.

Performances that placed the actors close to their audiences and the characters’ contact with the visitors obliged us to design the costumes in a non-standard way that would enable their wearers, in response to both the quality of the costume finish and the mobility of the actors and their attire, to generate enough of an affective connection to make the public forget that they were in the presence of a disguise and get involved in the play proposed by the character.

The transformable design of the disguises and their adaptation enabled the creation of a series of characters and animations that were suitable for promotion and entertainment at the various points of sale and marketing that the Marina d’Or complex had distributed over the Spanish territory.

Mobility

Given the dimensions of the Vacation City and the need to have the performances and surprises that we had prepared succeed each other in all the corners of the complex, it was necessary to design and build a mobile support unit, driven by a non-polluting electric motor, to transport the characters to the different animation points from the operations center.

This small mobile platform was provided with a set design so that the transport of the various characters to their performance points could be transformed into an amusing parade that would attract the public’s attention along the way, elicit some smiles and—why not?—invite by-standers to go along with them to the spot where they would act for them.

The set design chosen to decorate this vehicle met a series of technical and esthetic needs such as:

Vertical elements for the actors to hold on to.
Raised elements to enable them to be easily seen.
A decoration that could be used by all the animation characters, without clashing esthetically.
Sound and lighting of the unit to get the public’s attention, support the performance and turn the parade into a spectacle.

To meet these technical needs, the design chosen for this mobile unit was: a “Musical Pergola”.

Animation

‘ANIMA D’OR’ is a street animation proposal that, on one hand, displays an exclusive design in all the characters, and, on the other hand, has a functional format that combines three different performance styles.

Characters

Character design is inspired, with some license, by nature in the area, starting from the humanization of various components of the local flora and fauna.

Insects, birds, plants, flowers, etc. are transformed in a likeable way into true hosts and promoters of the activities and services offered by Vacation City.

Humor and music are the central elements of the scripts and choreographies with which our hosts will present themselves to the visitors in different guises so as to offer them an amusing interval.

Functional Style

The synergy that is generated in the daily accumulation of events arises from the combination of a rolling parade and the itinerant animation aroused by contact and the performances or sketches in the street.

These three forms of animation fuse together in images, in a unique spectacle that is coherently linked by the groups of characters.

In a nutshell, people will see them parade down the street, will have unexpected contact with them and will enjoy seeing and participating in their performances.
